I’m Maricarmen Cajahuaringa, a bilingual multimedia journalist, digital marketing strategist, and community-centered storyteller with a passion for elevating diverse voices. I hold a bachelor’s degree in social work from Springfield College, a master’s in journalism and media production from Sacred Heart University, and a certificate in digital marketing from IPM.
My journalism journey began at Identidad Latina, a Hispanic digital outlet in Hartford, CT, where I reported, produced, wrote, and managed content focused on politics, social issues, and community empowerment. I later partnered with HPATV, making my on-air debut with the show Explorando Hartford, where I further developed my skills in local news coverage and live production.
During the pandemic, I reported for Hartford News, covering the critical challenges communities were facing, from health disparities and housing instability to economic hardship, immigration, and local elections.
In 2019, I founded Boceto Media, a digital news platform dedicated to telling stories for and by Connecticut’s Latino community. At Boceto, I serve as a producer, reporter, content designer, and digital media manager, creating impactful content while leading digital campaigns and audience engagement strategies.
My commitment to public service and impactful media led me to FOX61 as an assignment desk editor, and so my journalism path led me to many other important mainstream outlets in the country. I’ve since reported and produced for Telemundo Atlanta, NY1 Noticias, NCN, and Connecticut Public Radio/NPR. These roles have allowed me to work across television, radio, and digital platforms in both English and Spanish, always with a focus on public interest journalism.
In addition to my journalism career, I’ve developed a strong background in digital marketing, including social media management, content creation, digital advertising, email campaigns, SEO strategies, and bilingual copywriting. I help individuals, nonprofits, and businesses tell their stories online, connect with their audiences, and grow their digital presence with purpose and clarity.
In my previous work as a social worker, I supported vulnerable communities by helping individuals access transitional services. My last role in that field was as a project coordinator at an anti-sexual abuse organization, where I mobilized volunteers and led awareness campaigns to support survivors and drive meaningful change.
I believe journalism and digital media are not just about information; they're about listening, building trust, and creating a space for truth and humanity. I approach every assignment with integrity, creativity, and compassion. One quote I live by comes from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: “If you can’t fly, then run; if you can’t run, then walk; if you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”
When I’m not reporting or creating content, I love taking long walks with my dog, reading nonfiction, cooking, and practicing yoga. I’m always exploring new ways to grow as a journalist, communicator, and entrepreneur.
